What options and assistance are available to VA borrowers?

By   |  Posted in Ask The Expert

Q: I am way behind on my VA loan due to various reasons. Will the VA use guaranteed funds to catch up my arrears? I am trying to deal with American Home Mortgage Servicing, Inc., now operating under the name Homeward Residential. I want to stay in my home. Will VA help with reaffirming my loan or are there any provisions under federal law for a veteran?

A: There is an excellent summary document at VA.gov which gives a solid list of resources. There are links and phone numbers for a national call center, information about loan modification options, and even details about special loan service centers staffed with technicians who can help you work with your servicer to avoid foreclosure.

You should also check out all the available options at www.benefits.va.gov/homeloans.
